If you've ever listed a camera, a tent or a pressure washer on Facebook Marketplace, you know the job: re-posting when it goes stale, answering "is this still available?" at 11pm, chasing dates over chat, and carrying all the risk yourself. Gear Envy exists to take that work off you, and to put a documented handover behind every hire, with a bond held when you set one.
A model name and one photo is enough to start. Identity verification can wait until you publish.
How it works
Your gear, earning between uses.
Most cameras, tents and projectors sit in a cupboard six days a week. Listing takes about ten minutes, and every hire is ID-checked and handed over in person, with a bond held when you set one.

Daily rate, bond and the shortest hire you'll take. We suggest a starting point from the catalogue.

Share it
One tap builds a ready-made Instagram, TikTok or Facebook post with your photo and caption.
Step 4
Hand it over
Hirers are ID-checked and their bond is held at the handover, before the gear leaves your hands. You choose where and when to meet, and hand over once your screen shows the green go-ahead.
Step 5
Get paid
The hire is paid up front on the hirer's card. Your gear comes back, you get paid, and the hirer's bond hold is released once the 48-hour claim window closes.

Every hirer passes an identity check before they can book. You see who you're handing to.
Your bond, your call
When you set a bond, it's held on the hirer's card at the handover, before the gear leaves your hands, and only released once your gear is back and checked.
In-person handover
No couriers, no strangers at your door. You agree a place and time for each hire, and a checklist covers both handovers. At pickup, wait for the green go-ahead on your screen: you're both checked in, the bond is held and the photos are taken.
Drones must weigh 250 g or less at take-off for now. Drone hires follow CASA's recreational rules; the listing states them.
Need it longer or want to change the return day? Sort it out on the booking page, and nothing changes until you both agree.

A bond when you want one
When you set a bond, it's held on the hirer's card before the handover and released once your gear is back and checked. If something comes back damaged, the claim is reviewed on the platform against the photos both sides take at handover, and part of the hold can be captured following that review. Gear Envy does not insure your gear: a loss can exceed the bond, so set it to match what the kit is worth to you.
The maths, honestly.
You set the daily rate. We'll show you what similar Sydney kit earns. Gear Envy charges a 15% commission on completed bookings, so you keep 85% of your listed price. It's the cost of demand, automation, payments and the bond and claims process, not a tax on what you'd keep for free doing it all yourself.

0% commission on your first hire, when it's booked by 15 December 2026 (our first 30 days). You keep the whole hire price, and the hirer pays the usual price: it's on us, not them.
Hirers pay a separate 5% service fee (minimum $2) on top of your rate. It never comes out of your share. The minimum hire is $25.

Hirers trust the platform because lenders keep a few simple commitments: honest listings with every scratch disclosed, gear that's charged and complete, and handovers that happen on time. Hold that standard and the catalogue holds you up.
